From Research to Reality: Driving Equitable Workforce Development in San Diego

The County of San Diego has significantly boosted its investment in equitable workforce development. Although challenging, this effort has taught us valuable lessons. Here’s the best kept secret:  the financial resources are available, but they are frequently misaligned and not effectively deployed. We’ll explain how we used equity-focused, mixed-methods research to foster a fairer economy in partnership with philanthropy, the workforce board, elected officials, and other key stakeholders. It starts with understanding the experience of individuals, analyzing that experience to understand trends, and converting those trends to powerful stories. Despite knowing the value of research, many struggle with its practical application.
