Revamping Training with English Language Learners in Mind
September 26, 2024 12:00 PM 12:30 PM
Let’s discuss the why and how of integrating English language skills into occupational skills training and apprenticeship programs for in-demand, high-quality jobs. Despite immigrants constituting nearly 20% of the U.S. workforce and driving recent labor market growth, many are relegated to low-wage jobs. Too often these workers do not have the opportunity to strengthen their English skills or they are excluded from English-only training programs. The objectives of this session include highlighting new models and best practices in this space (we have come a long way since I-BEST!) and lifting up the approaches to partnership that are critical for this work to be successful. We will discuss the crucial partnerships necessary for success, equipping attendees with strategies to engage stakeholders in their communities, foster industry support, and utilize federal funding effectively.
