As a person in recovery, I am no stranger to the many trials of life. Enjoying the rewards of my sobriety, I took a leap of faith by pursuing a career in the Natural Gas Industry. Promotions came my way, I married the love of my life, and we purchased our country dream home. Just when I thought I had it all, life hit again. And it hit hard. It was nothing short of a miracle that my team and I survived a gas plant explosion in 2022. In the blink of an eye all was lost, my financial security was gone and I found myself back at square one. Unemployed, I spent a few months interviewing with top natural gas companies, but only to be met at the door by each with disappointment. I was nearing the end of my rope once again, but through prayer I found myself at the doors of Hutchinson Community College. Showing up unannounced I somehow ended up speaking with the Director of the Business and Industry Institute, Dave Mullins. He gave me ten minutes of his time, when I needed it the most. This pivotal moment led me down a path to higher education. Dave was instrumental in guiding me towards scholarships, adjusting class schedules to fit my needs and allowing me to fast track through the Industrial Electrical Technology program while working as an intern with Northern Natural Gas. I graduated on a Friday, and began my new career as Sr. Pipeline Technician that following Monday. I am grateful for individuals like Dave who are willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need. I have now regained all that was lost and so much more. Nearing eight years strong in my recovery, the sky is the limit.
